Emerging Contaminants

Emerging contaminants is a general term that covers a wide range of chemical compounds including pesticides, pharmaceuticals, personal care products and steroids that may have adverse effects on public health and the environment. While they may only be present in low levels, emerging contaminants can have serious short-term consequences, while long term effects are generally unknown. Some emerging contaminants are categorized as Endocrine Disrupting Compounds (EDC’s) because they can affect the endocrine systems of mammals and fish.

Dionex works with drinking water utilities and research organizations to develop robust analytical methods for the detection of emerging contaminants in the environment.
